THE TALE OF TWO CITIES.
The Cubs pushed their record to 25 games over .500 (43-18) with a 13-2 blowout over the Atlanta Braves Sunday.
The Sox have lost 22 of their last 30 games and sit at 1 game under .500 (31-32) after their 3-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals. The 11th loss in their last 12 games against American League Central foes.
ADDING INSULT TO INJURY
White Sox’ first round draft pick Zack Burdi, a Downers Grove native and life-long White Sox fan, gave up a walk-off grand slam to eliminate his #2 ranked University of Louisville team from the College World Series playoffs. Ironically, they are the University of Louisville CARDINALS. The White Sox chose Burdi with a compensation pick they received for losing free agent and ex-Cub draftee Jeff Samardzija.
June 13, 2010 – In game against our cross-town rivals at Wrigley Field, the Cubs get out of a bases loaded jam in the final frame for a 1-0 victory over the White Sox. Juan Pierre’s leadoff single in the top of the ninth spoils Ted Lilly’s bid for a no-hitter, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished at the ‘Friendly Confines’ since Milt Pappas threw a no-no in 1972.
