On this day in 1967, the “Lovable Losers” took their first step toward respectability on a crazy Sunday afternoon at #WrigleyField when the crowd wouldn’t leave. The #Cubs got a 3-hitter from Fergie Jenkins, who had a double, triple and RBI to beat the #Reds. Their win put them in the win column for the 13th time in 14 games and in first place that late in the season for the first time since 1945. TATS ENTERTAINMENT.
A couple of friendly wagers between teammates on the outcome of the College World Series games turned ugly this weekend.  Jake Arrieta’s alma mater, the #TCU Horned Frogs, tangled
with Tommy La Stella’s school, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers who were victorious in a pair of games this week, ousting Arrieta’s former squad. As the loser, Arrieta will get a Coastal Carolina tattoo. TCU did take one game earlier in the week, meaning La Stella will have to dress up as TCU’s mascot, Super Frog.

    RIGHTING THE SHIP
Arrieta takes the mound Monday in Cincinnati and is 4-2 with a 2.81 ERA in six career starts against the Reds. Including his no-hitter just over two months ago. Cincinnati, which has been outscored by Chicago 60-20 this season, ended a four-game losing streak with Sunday’s 3-0 home win against San Diego, and tries its luck in the opener with RHP Dan Straily, who got the start in the Reds’ only win over the Cubs in 2016 – a 13-5 rout two days after Arrieta’s no-hitter.
